Karnataka government announced the reservation of jobs for ‘Kannadigas’ in both the public and private sectors. Kannadiga quota was a long-standing demand of pro-Kannada groups.
Group C and D category jobs will be set aside for ‘Kannadigas’ and also making it clear that priority will be given to Kannadigas for employment in the private sector.
The directive also mentions that the preference should be given to Kannadigas even in A and B category jobs.
Law Minister J.C. Madhuswamy announced this during the assembly session on 24 September. Law Minister said, the government has issued a directive that the natives of the state should be given priority, not just in government departments or Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) but also private companies.
He also said that Kannadiga quota is to protect jobs for ‘Kannadigas’.
According to the directive, any person who has stayed in the state for more than 10 years and has studied Kannada as a language until Class 10 is eligible to be called a ‘Kannadiga’.
